A lovely story about getting over one's first love and being ready to accept moving on. As with many who have had their heart broken by a first love that ended, Hannah is having trouble moving on. It isn't until she is literally forced to face Jake, the man who broke her heart, that she can move on and accept love from the man who is truly meant for her, Alex. I loved the way S.K. Wills gave each character real personalities and believable motivations for their actions, and loved her ability with smart, snappy dialogue.I will definitely buy more S.K.Wills books!

In S. K. Wills’ novel Starting from Lost, recent college graduate, Hannah, is heading to New York City. While this should be a happy event, it is tinged with sadness as Hannah feels underused in her job as secretary; is still unsure at what she wants to do in her life, and continues to be heartbroken from the breakup of her first love five years earlier. When she arrives in her apartment in New York she meets a brother and sister from the floor above that help her come out of her shell and move on with her life. But all is not cheery for them either. The siblings, Alex and Mackenzie, have been through some very rough times and needs this friendship with Hannah in order to put the past to rest. Hannah starts flourishing in New York , but just as things are going great some storms head her way. First her boss tries to have her extend her work duties into his bedroom, and then she discovers that her ex-boyfriend, and the man who ripped her heart apart, is living across from her. Will Hannah, Alex, and Mackenzie be able to start over and fresh? Or will the past repeat itself?
I thought this was a thoroughly interesting read as the characters were very relatable. Each had gone through tough experiences that hurt them, and each dealt with it a different way; making the story something anyone could relate to. I really enjoyed the characters as they were diverse in backgrounds; a mix of professionals and the everyday man. There are a few romantic clichés, but the book itself recognizes these and purposely uses them as they are ones readers will all adore. On a whole it was a good read and I give it three and a half out of five stars.
This debut book from author S.K. Willis followed the path of Hannah Rogers, still recovering from a breakup 4 years ago, trying to find her way with her career which takes her to NYC for 8 months. Her time in the city is a daily mix of dealing with a slimy boss, the resurfacing of her ex and an unexpected attraction to her neighbor, Alex, who too is broken hearted and has devoted his life to protecting his sister, Mackenzie, after a mishaps years ago. I felt the character development of Hannah, Alex, her ex and Alex's sister were done very well. The relationships were not forced and seemed to occur with such ease. There was something about Hannah that made you root for her and not feel like she needed to just "get over" her past love. Her story was relatable and heartbreaking- something that will hit home with readers.
I was excited to read that this was book 1 in the Broken Beginnings Series so will be waiting for book 2 for sure! I think this was an excellent debut and I will look forward to reading more from S.K. Willis in the future!

This book reeled me in and kept me up late reading most nights. A relatable storyline to all of us who have lost first loves.
This author is the greatest, she writes very well and has a very fascinating imagination. She draws you into the book and you cant put it down. I read it cover to cover!!!
This is not your typical romance novel. In fact, I'd call it women's fiction with a strong romance theme. So if you go in expecting this tale to set your hormones ablaze and skip right past the emotional awkwardness of falling in love, then you will probably be disappointed.
However, if you read this book with the mindset of truly connecting with Hannah, of understanding the depth of her feelings and sensitivities, and with a desire to remember all the uncomfortable and joyous moments of finding your heart's passion, then you will adore this book.
Wills creates a realistic if extreme situation of a young woman whose heart has been broken so deeply, she never fully recovered. As a result, she hides from connection and love. It's not until she meets her neighbors and learns more about their broken pasts, that she can truly feel understood and brave enough to start again.
"Starting from Lost" is the perfect name for this surprisingly deep and eloquent narrative. It's not without its flaws--but there's so much more here than first meets the eye.
STARTING FROM LOST is the perfect read for fans of Nora Roberts and women's fiction, and those who enjoy the journey of romance, rather than just the sexy destination. There's heat, mind you, but it's the kind that comes from a long, slow burn.
A very satisfying read.
Where do you start when you are lost? That's where Hannah is. Putting her life back together after a bad split. Alex wasn't what she expected but exactly what she needs. Alex is a tortured soul and Hannah is his cure. You will enjoy this story!
This book was great from the start. The main character Hannah goes through a lot of self discovery in her journey to heal from a past relationship. Hannah was an easy character to relate and her relationships including friendships, love interest, and ex_boyfriend keep the book moving. I look forward to reading more from the author.
